Lightweight CPAP machines for travel

How to travel with your cpap.

When you have sleep apnea, the mere thought of traveling and having to lug your CPAP with you can be overwhelming. You may even avoid travel all together because your bulky CPAP machine doesn’t fit into your vacation plans.

Here at Alaska Sleep Clinic, we understand the frustration that accompanies having to coordinate traveling with the use of CPAP. Travel size CPAP machines that are lightweight and compact make vacations you once thought out of reach possible.

We reviewed four travel CPAP machines based on portability, ease of use, durability, and the ability to run on DC-power or battery to help get you exploring easier.

Transcend Auto miniCPAP

The Transcend Auto from Somnetics is one of the smallest auto-adjusting CPAPs available on the market weighing less than a pound.

Auto-adjusting technology

The Transcend Auto automatically changes pressure on a breath-by-breath basis during use. Air output is changed so that only the needed amount of pressure for each breath is used.

EZEX Pressure Relief

To make therapy even more comfortable, EZEX pressure relief is featured on the Transcend Auto. EZEX pressure relief allows for the pressure to drop a set amount when breathing out, resulting in a more comfortable exhalation.

Flexible Power Options

The Transcend Auto keeps travel in mind with the inclusion of a power supply, which has international plug adapters for use in many countries including the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, and Australia and New Zealand. With the added option of the Transcend multi-night battery, the door to travel without power sources is opened up.

Z1 Auto Travel CPAP Machine

At just 6.5 inches long and weighing 10 ounces, the Z1 Auto by Human Design Medical can be easily stowed in carry-on luggage or in a tote.

Auto-adjusting technology

The Z1 Auto automatically adjusts to the most effective level of air pressure with each breath you take as you sleep. The Z1 Auto also has the option to be set as a single pressure CPAP.

Z-Breathe Pressure Relief

Z-Breathe is a comfort feature that reduces the air pressure you feel as you breath out. The Z1 Auto allows for the air pressure to be set to one of three levels for a choice of gentle pressure relief, moderate pressure relief, or large pressure relief while breathing out. Altitude is no longer an issue while traveling as the Z1 automatically adjusts for changes in elevation.

Flexible Power Options

Activities away from electricity can be a reality by adding on the optional PowerShell with battery. The battery is fully integrated with the machine using the unique PowerShell design, which holds both the machine and battery in one compact bundle. Use the battery to run the Z1 machine independently or set the battery up as a fail-safe in case power is interrupted.

PR System One REMStar 60 Series Auto Bluetooth

The PR System One REMStar by Philips Respironics is not only lightweight but it also features Bluetooth to make tracking your therapy data easier on the go.

Auto-Adjusting Pressure

The PR System One 60 Series Auto with Bluetooth will automatically adjust pressure throughout the night to provide the minimum pressure needed to maintain an open airway. The machine also features Opti-Start technology that will monitor the average pressure you need and then begin your therapy with the correct pressure.

Heated Tube Humidifier with System One Humidity Control

The system also features an optional heated tube humidifier with humidity control for added comfort while traveling.

ICON Auto CPAP Machine

The ICON Auto CPAP Machine with Built-In Heated Humidifier and ThermoSmart Heated Hose by Fisher and Paykel offers enhanced comfort and personalized treatment you can take on the go.

Auto Algorithm

Sleeping habits, especially while traveling can vary daily. The ICON Auto is designed to adjust pressure on a breath-by-breath basis as it continuously checks for any interruptions to your breathing

SensAwake Technology

The ICON Auto features SensAwake technology that monitors your airflow and reduces the pressure levels if your breathing becomes irregular.

ThermoSmart Humidification & Heated Hose

The machine has ThermoSmart technology that delivers custom amounts of high humidity, regardless of what the weather is wherever your travels take you.
